Angostura Cocoa Bitters is only the third expression since the original bitters hit the market in 1824. Good things come to those who wait, huh? Only introduced in 2020, Angostura Cocoa Bitters are simply delicious. Made with Trinitario cocoa from Trinidad and Tobago, it?s rich, bitter and floral with a boldly nutty cocoa note, plus flavours of cacao nibs, ginger cake and dried herbs. Go heavy with this to build complexity in cocktails with a base of dark or heavily aged spirits. Having said that, we love it in a Martinez made with Mezcal, so maybe it?s just best to experiment. Why not add a slug to your next Mexican mole?

The original Angostura Bitters were invented by Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, a German surgeon general in Sim?n Bol?var’s army in Venezuela. Based in Angostura, he used local ingredients that remain a well-kept secret to this very day. It will always be an iconic cocktail component, instantly recognisable by its massively oversized label, which was apparently a comedic error when Siegert?s sons separately designed a new label and new bottle without consulting each other on size.
